Learning in the 21st century is a changing paradigm for all educators. I'm developing my own personal learning network online that keeps me interacting and thinking on a daily basis and changing how I view teaching contexts. Learning is no longer limited to the physical walls of a building, class, or textbooks.
Teachers still have the power of the read-aloud to engage students in a good book and expose them to good writers. Whether web-based or hard-copy, students need to be modeled and encouraged to read more widely and thoughtfully. They need modeling from good examples and taught how to develop their thinking in order to communicate well and write more effectively. With Classroom 2.0 the power of "publishing" to an audience is a very compelling way for students to engage in reading and writing performances that demonstrate their learning.
How we "hook" students as lifelong readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians matters.

You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiousity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.CLAY P. BEDFORD
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my personal approach that creates the climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous.I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.HAIM GINOT
